Let’s Dance for Sport Relief! | Episode 5 (Final Episode)
After five weeks on our screens, Let’s Dance For Sport Relief came to an end tonight, with comedian Rowland Rivron taking home the top prize for his parody of Fatboy Slim’s video for Weapon Of Choice.
The 53-year-old impressed viewers with his moves after taking to the stage on last week’s show and performing an energetic routine that mirrored the performance by Hollywood actor Christopher Walken in the 2001 music video.
And after sailing through to tonight’s final, Rivron clearly delighted Let’s Dance fans once again, meaning he saw off competition from show favourites to win this year’s series.
EastEnders residents Laurie Brett and Tameka Empsom were hot favourites with their interpretation of Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s Telephone, while Outnumbered star Tyger Drew Honey and his partner Tracy Beaker actress Dani Hamer had also been tipped for glory.
After all the Let’s Dance finalists performed once again for the audience on tonight’s show, Steve Jones and Alex Jones appeared on stage to announce the winner of the this year’s competition.
Miles Jupp, Terry Alderton, Fatima Whitbread, Eddie the Eagle and Omid Djalili were all told they had been voted off, before it was revealed that Rowland had won the series.
Judge Frank Skinner had earlier said of Rivron’s routine: ‘The message to any young people watching this is – don’t be afraid of middle age, it can be very beautiful.
‘I’d like to learn that and do it every day – it’s honestly one of the best dances I’ve ever seen on this show, and I totally loved it.’
Proceeds from viewers’ votes go to Sports Relief, a charity campaign that culminates in a six-and-a-half-hour telethon on Friday, March 23.
