Let’s Dance for Sport Relief | Episode 4
Olympian Fatima Whitbread and presenter Rowland Rivron are the final celebrities through to the Let’s Dance for Sport Relief final.
In the fourth heat round, they went up against comedy duo Watson & Oliver, Gadget Show presenters Suzi Perry and Ortis Deley and comedian Patrick Monahan.
Fatima won the judges vote by Russell Kane, Lee Nelson, and Jo Brand for her performance to You Should Be Dancing by the Bee Gees with the Cuban Brothers. The musical act danced on stage in their colourful outfits for most of the song, before an uncharacteristically frilly Fatima appeared to finish off the number. After the performance, Jo Brand commented: ‘You looks so incandescent and it’s as if Chris DeBurgh wrote Lady In Red for you.’Russell joked: ‘I was amazed, but it would have been a nice finish if the cockroach had come out of your nose at the end,’ referring to the javelin thrower’s famous scene in the jungle.Rowland Rivron’s performance was a huge hit, winning the audience vote.
He did a great impression of Christopher Walken in Fatboy Slim’s 2001 hit Weapon of Choice video.Russell said afterward: ‘That is the dance to beat tonight, it was unbelievable. The choreography was spot on, you should be proud of yourself.’
Jo added: ‘You’re going to be corralled by every menopausal housewife in the country – and I’m leading the charge.’
A huge surprise was comedy duo Watson and Oliver, who were sent packing despite stepping things up by skating as Torvill and Dean to Bolero at the 1984 Olympics.
Wearing wigs and flashing their cheesiest grins, the comic duo perfected some impressive tricks in between crashing off stage and stopping for sips of cocktails.
The hilarious routine received a huge applause and great comments from the judges, but it wasn’t enough to go through to the final.
Comedian and ‘professional cuddler’ Patrick Monahan was first up, dancing in Rihanna’s Only Girl In The World.
He appeared in a bright red wig, silver sequin midriff top and puffball skirt. The comic had the Rihanna look right down to the singer’s tattoos and Louis Spence dressed as an angry Irish farmer shooing him off the stage for indecency.
Finally, Suzi and Otis from The Gadget show did a saucy routine to Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin.
Fatima and the Cuban Brothers and Rowland Rivron will go head to head with the other finalists next week.
